Description :
Iridium est un métal de transition dense et blanc argenté appartenant au groupe des éléments du platine, connu pour sa remarquable résistance à la corrosion et à l'oxydation. Il a un point de fusion élevé et est l'un des métaux les plus résistants à la corrosion, ce qui le rend précieux dans diverses applications industrielles. Iridium se trouve généralement dans la nature sous forme d'alliage avec d'autres métaux du groupe du platine et est souvent extrait de minerais de nickel et de cuivre. Son numéro atomique est 77 et il présente une variété d'états d'oxydation, avec +3 et +4 étant les plus courants dans les composés. Iridium est utilisé dans des applications à haute température, des contacts électriques et des bougies d'allumage, ainsi que dans la production de certains types de catalyseurs. De plus, en raison de sa rareté et de ses propriétés uniques, Iridium est également utilisé dans des instruments scientifiques spécialisés et dans le domaine de la bijouterie. Sa haute densité et sa dureté contribuent à sa durabilité, tandis que son inertie chimique le rend adapté à une utilisation dans des environnements difficiles.
