Description :
Nickel est un métal de transition avec le symbole chimique Ni et le numéro CAS 7440-02-0. Il se caractérise par son apparence argentée et est connu pour sa grande ductilité et malléabilité. Nickel a un point de fusion et un point d'ébullition relativement élevés par rapport à de nombreux autres métaux, ce qui le rend adapté aux applications à haute température. Il présente une excellente résistance à la corrosion, en particulier dans des environnements alcalins, c'est pourquoi il est souvent utilisé dans des alliages et des revêtements pour améliorer la durabilité. Nickel est ferromagnétique à température ambiante, ce qui signifie qu'il peut être magnétisé. En termes de réactivité chimique, Nickel peut former divers états d'oxydation, le +2 étant le plus courant dans les composés. Il réagit facilement avec les acides, libérant du gaz hydrogène, et peut également former des ions complexes en solution. Nickel est un élément trace essentiel dans les systèmes biologiques, jouant un rôle dans certains processus enzymatiques, mais une exposition excessive peut être toxique. Ses applications vont de la production d'acier inoxydable aux batteries et catalyseurs dans les réactions chimiques.

It is found in many minerals, such as, nickel sulfide, nickel oxide, niccolite, nickeline and pentlandite, among others; it is used in coins and as a component of stainless steel in metallurgy. Nickel is an important reagent in organic chemistry, being used as catalyst for hydrogenation reactions, also in the form of Ni nanoparticles. Additionally, in the form of organic halides such as NiCl2 or NiBr2, it is useful for cyclization reactions with Grignard reagents. Nickel also has antioxidative properties and can be used to remove harmful substances from water.
