DL-2-Mercaptomethyl-3-guanidinoethylthiopropanoic acid has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in both in vitro and in vivo models. DL-2-Mercaptomethyl-3-guanidinoethylthiopropanoic acid inhibits the production of peptide hormones by binding to their receptors. This drug also inhibits cellular receptor activity for basic proteins (e.g., growth factors) that are necessary for cancer cell proliferation and survival.
