8-Methoxy-N-propyl-2-aminotetralin hydrochloride is a fluorescent compound that binds to dopamine D2 receptors. It exhibits neuroprotective effects and has been used for the diagnosis of cancer. 8MPAT has been shown to modulate D2 dopamine receptor activity, which may be due to its ability to bind competitively to the receptor and inhibit the binding of endogenous dopamine. This agent also binds with high affinity to serotonin 5HT1A receptors, which may be responsible for its clinical relevance in the treatment of depression. 8MPAT is not clonogenic and does not bind significantly to cellular DNA or RNA.
