3beta-Ursodeoxycholic acid is a bile acid that is synthesized in the liver and secreted into the intestine. It is used as a treatment for congestive heart failure, HIV infection, bowel disease, and autoimmune diseases. 3beta-Ursodeoxycholic acid has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of hydroxylation of cholesterol in the liver.
