1-Palmitoyl-1,3-propandiol is a fatty acid that belongs to the group of long-chain fatty acids. It is a component of the cell membrane and is important for maintaining its integrity. 1-Palmitoyl-1,3-propandiol has been shown to have antifungal properties against the fungus, Aspergillus flavus, and activity against other bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. 1-Palmitoyl-1,3-propandiol also has an antibacterial effect against certain strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Enterobacteriaceae. 1-Palmitoyl-1,3-propandiol inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the fatty acid biosynthesis proteins in bacterial cell membranes, preventing their synthesis and thus disrupting cell membranes.
