CAS :<p>ML-180 is a drug that acts as a histone deacetylase inhibitor. The drug has been shown to be efficacious in the treatment of epilepsy and depression in animal models. Histological analysis of the brain has shown decreased neural cell death, increased neuronal survival, and reduced infarct volume when ML-180 was administered. In vivo treatment with ML-180 has also been shown to increase neuronal activity and reduce epileptic seizure frequency. Geniculate nucleus neurons have been shown to respond to ML-180 with an increase in locomotor activity, while granulosa cells have been shown to exhibit spontaneous activity. Acute phase response has also been observed in animals treated with ML-180, which may be due to its ability to modulate the inflammatory response by inhibiting IL-1β production. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) experiments showed that ML-180 can bind both DNA and RNA polymerases, thus affecting transcription and translation of DNA and RNA respectively.
