The mechanism of action for 5'-oxo-2' -deoxy-8,5'-cycloadenosine may be due to its ability to cause DNA damage, leading to cell death by apoptosis. This drug also inhibits viral replication and may have antiviral activity. 5'-Oxo-2'-deoxy-8,5'-cycloadenosine can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of phosphoramidites, ribonucleosides or diphosphate nucleotides.
