5-Cyano-N-(4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)-2-(piperidin-1-yl)phenyl)furan-2-carboxamide is a new antimicrobial agent that has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. It also has been shown to be active against yeast, fungi, and protozoa. The compound was synthesized by reacting an amino group of 5-aminofurfural with the 4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)-2-(piperidin 1yl)phenylamine moiety.
