Salicylmethylecgonine is a chemical with opioid receptor antagonist activity. It is an operable agent that can be used to treat opioid overdoses. Salicylmethylecgonine has been shown to have a high affinity for the mu-opioid receptor, and is chemically similar to methylphenidate. In animal studies, it has been shown to inhibit the effects of morphine on the nervous system and decrease the respiratory rate in mice. Salicylmethylecgonine may be administered as an aerosol or by injection.
