Echugin
CAS :Echugin is a cardiac glycoside that is structurally related to digoxin. It has inhibitory effects on the pacemaker cells of the heart and can be used as a control agent for cardiac arrhythmias. Echugin also has an inhibitory effect on cancer cells, as well as inhibiting the growth of cervical cancer cells in vitro. Echugin also inhibits the release of fatty acids from adipose tissue and their oxidation by free radicals, thereby lowering blood pressure. It has a chinese herb host plant relationship with Acorus calamus L., which are used in traditional Chinese medicine preparations for treatment of cardiovascular disorders and cancer. The active ingredient is extracted from Acorus calamus roots by hydrochloric acid and then purified by recrystallization from ethanol to yield echugin crystals.
