APN plays an important role in the degradation of neuropeptides, such as substance P and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide. 3-(1-Piperidinyl)-5-[[2-(1-pyrrolidinyl)ethyl]amino]-6H-anthra[1,9-cd]isoxazol-6-one was shown to inhibit APN activity by binding to its active site.
