CAS :EC 144 is an access inhibitor that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the chaperone protein Hsp90 in vitro. EC 144 binds to the ATP binding site of Hsp90, preventing ATP from binding and triggering the conformational change required for substrate release. The synthetic nature of EC 144 makes it difficult for bacteria to develop resistance to this drug. EC 144 has also shown efficacy against cancer cells and autoimmune diseases in vivo models. It is not active against methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) or methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA).
