Dihydrolanosterol is a steroid that is a precursor of lanosterol, which in turn is an intermediate product of cholesterol synthesis. Dihydrolanosterol has been used to diagnose liver diseases, because it can be synthesized by the human liver and its concentration in the blood increases when there are problems with cholesterol metabolism.
