[3-(Ethylamino)phenyl]methanol is a reactive and incompletely soluble amphibole. It has been shown to have genotoxic activity in vitro, which may be related to its surface properties. Studies using multinucleate v79 cells have shown that [3-(Ethylamino)phenyl]methanol exhibits cytotoxicity, but not genotoxicity. This compound also inhibits the dehydrogenase enzyme and induces micronuclei in mammalian cells. Additionally, it has been shown to cause cancer in animals in vivo and is toxic at high doses.
