CAS :Flomoxef sodium is a water-soluble second/fourth-generation cephalosporin, Shionogi β-lactam antibiotic. Flomoxef inhibits bacterial growth through inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis. It has been shown to be effective against infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes, and Acinetobacter baumannii among other bacteria, and can be used to treat ongoing infections or as a prophylactic for example ahead of surgery. Flomoxef sodium has been shown to have synergistic effects when used in combination with isepamicin sulfate and penicillin, which may be due to its ability to increase the permeability of the bacterial cell membrane. Clinical trials are currently underway for flomoxef sodium as a treatment for MRSA infections and UTIs.
