Magnolignan A is a natural compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial properties, as well as neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory activities. It has been found to inhibit the growth of viruses such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus. It also inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α and IL-6, in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated macrophages. Magnolignan A also protects against apoptotic cell death induced by a variety of agents, including staurosporine and hydrogen peroxide.
