The drug also has an ability to inhibit polyurethane synthesis and introduce new functional groups into polyurethanes. 5,6-O-Isopropylidene L gulono 1,4 lactone is not toxic to healthy cells because it does not bind to DNA or RNA; however it binds to polymers such as proteins and polyurethane chains.
