CAS :4-Nitro-L-phenylalanine is a nitroprotease inhibitor that binds to the active site of the enzyme, preventing access of substrate. It is used as an analytical reagent for determination of nitrite, and has been shown to have antiviral and anti-inflammatory activities. 4-Nitro-L-phenylalanine has also been shown to inhibit the growth of human leukemia cells and enhance their sensitivity to chemotherapy drugs. This drug has been found to cause a decrease in dopamine levels in rats and may be useful in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
