It is made by first reacting butylamine with bromoethane in the presence of sulfuric acid, yielding ethyl sulfonanilide. The ethyl sulfonanilide is then reacted with chloroacetaldehyde in the presence of acid in order to form the desired product (ethyl 5-(bromomethyl)thiazole-2-carboxylate).
