CAS :Cephapirin is a semisynthetic penicillinase-resistant cephalosporin antibiotic that is used to treat infections caused by bacteria resistant to other antibiotics. Cephapirin binds to the bacterial ribosome and prevents the formation of peptidyl-tRNA, which blocks protein synthesis and cell division. It has been found to be effective against viral diseases such as herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus, rubella virus, as well as bowel disease caused by Escherichia coli. Cephapirin also inhibits tumor growth in rats with bone cancer and has antiestrogenic effects on the uterus. The chemical structure of cephapirin is similar to tetracycline and can bind to nuclear DNA and interfere with transcription.
