CAS :4-Tert-butyltoluene is a cytotoxic agent that is used in analytical chemistry. It has been shown to bind to DNA and inhibit fatty acid synthesis. 4-Tert-butyltoluene also binds to the cytosolic calcium, leading to an increase in the intracellular concentration of this ion. This causes changes in gene expression, which leads to cell death. The mechanism of 4-tert-butyltoluene’s action is still being investigated, but it may involve a reaction with mitochondrial membrane potential and benzalkonium chloride.
