CAS :N,N-Dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine (NMPPD) is an anion radical scavenger that can be used for wastewater treatment by removing nitrates. It has been shown to react in vitro with the hydroxyl group of dopamine and form an NMPPD-dopamine complex. This reaction solution is then oxidized by the redox potential to produce water vapor and acid formation. The redox potential of NMPPD was found to be -0.58 volts at pH 7.4, making it a strong candidate as an antimicrobial agent in vivo.
