These clones recognise human D-Dimer and high molecular weight fibrin degradation products and no cross-reactions is observed with fibrinogen and D-monomer. A potential application of this product is for coating to latex particles for latex enhanced immunoturbidimetric applications. It can further be used in ELISA and immunofluorescent assays.
Human D-dimer, a soluble fibrin degradation product recognised by this antibody product, can be used as a marker for clinical conditions where the process of coagulation and fibrinolysis have been activated. For example it can be used in the diagnosis of venous thromboembolism and intravascular coagulation. The formation of human D-dimer occurs when fibrinogen is converted to fibrin monomers when the enzyme thrombin cleaves fibrinopeptides at the N-terminal domain of fibrinogen. These monomers aggregate when interacting with another enzyme: activated factor XIII (factor XIIIa) forming a cross-linked fibrin polymer, also known as a fibrin clot. A final enzyme, plasmin, degrades this fibrin clot, resulting in D-dimer.
