CAS :2,2-Bis(chloromethyl)oxirane is a chemical intermediate that can be used as a binder in the production of polyurethane and polyester resins. It can also be used to produce target products such as hydroxyethyl acrylate, methacrylic acid, and acrylic acid esters. 2,2-Bis(chloromethyl)oxirane is usually prepared by reacting methylene chloride with chloromethyl methyl ether in the presence of a catalyst such as tetrabutylammonium. The reaction mixture is heated to reflux for at least one hour before cooling to room temperature and adding an excess of water to quench the reaction.
