This standard is an aqueous suspension of a formazin type product that carries all of the advantages of formazin but eliminates its shortcomings. Concentrated or saturated Potassium Chloride (KCl) is the optimal electrolyte and filling solution for potentiometric titrations, direct pH measurement, redox or ion measurement where silver/silver chloride or calomel reference electrodes are used. However, saturated KCl is only sparingly soluble below 20°C, so if measurements below this temperature are to be carried out 4M Potassium Chloride remains in solution and confers an advantage over saturated potassium chloride. - A good electrolyte must fulfil a number of conditions. This is because Redox Oxidation/Reduction (ORP) is an absolute measurement and the sensing electrode does not require calibration.
