Citalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that is used for the treatment of depression. It has also been found to relieve and manage symptoms of anxiety, eating disorders and OCD. Citalopram targets serotonin by inhibiting its reuptake in the synaptic cleft. In vitro studies demonstrate that citalopram is a strong and selective inhibitor of neuronal serotonin reuptake and has weak effects on norepinephrine and dopamine central reuptake. .

Doxepin is a psychotropic agent that is used in the treatment of depression, anxiety and insomnia. This drug has antidepressant and anxiolytic properties. This mechanism of action for this drug is not clear however it is known to be a histamine receptor antagonist.
