Applications Furfural is a compound mainly found in agricultural byproducts, and is produced from the hydrolysis and dehydration of xylan contained in lignocellulose using solid acid catalysts. Furfural is also a potential platform for biofuels and inhibits fermentation in yeast.

Applications 5-Methylfurfural is a common chemical reagent used in a wide variety of chemical reactions and organic synthesis. Polycyclic pyridazine based derivatives are synthesized with this compound to form antimicrobial agents. Also used in the preparation of antiinflammatory diarylpentanoid analogues.

Applications A metabolite of Malachite Green in seafood products. A triphenylmethane dye with fungicidal and limited antiseptic activity.
