• Description: Somatostatin-14 (SRIF) was originally isolated from ovine hypothalamic extracts on the basis of its ability to inhibit the secretion of radioimmunoassayable growth hormone by primary cultures of enzymatically dispersed rat anterior pituitary cells. SRIF is a small cyclic neuropeptide hormone with broad inhibitory effects on endocrine secretions such as the production of GH, glucagon, and insulin.
