The 6-Fluoro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside is an antituberculosis drug, specifically belonging to the class of rifamycins. It is known for its effectiveness in treating tuberculosis infections and contains active compounds with bactericidal activity. This drug works by inhibiting bacterial growth through binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. Its high frequency of human activity has been demonstrated using a patch-clamp technique on human erythrocytes. The active form of this drug undergoes various metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid.
