Albomitomycin A is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits DNA polymerase and prevents the duplication of DNA. It is a synthetic homologous compound that has been shown to have antitumour activity against carcinoma cell lines in vitro and in vivo. Albomitomycin A was found to be effective at concentrations as low as 0.1-1 μM, which is lower than other compounds with similar activity. The structural study of albomitomycin A has been completed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. This bioreductive agent also has the potential for use as a chemotherapeutic drug because it can be synthesized more efficiently than other related compounds, such as mitomycin C, doxorubicin, or daunorubicin.
