Puromycin is a cytotoxic antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the ribosome and blocking the entry of amino acids. It is used in cell culture experiments to study the physiological function of cells, such as glomerular filtration rate and tubule cells. Puromycin-D3 is a synthetic derivative that has been modified with a radioactive label (D3). Puromycin-D3 binds to human serum albumin, which can be measured using radioactivity measurements. This drug also has an effect on iron homeostasis and may be an experimental model for bowel disease.
