Description :3-Methyl-4H-chromen-4-one is a natural compound that has been shown to be effective against various bowel diseases. This compound is a prodrug for the formation of 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, which then undergoes a glycosidic bond with collagen to form 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid. The hydroxyl group on this molecule also reacts with benzylic amino groups on proteins and nucleophilic groups on carbohydrates to form covalent bonds.
