Description

Phenethyl butyrate is a diphenyl ether that has been used as a solvent in the preparation of biological samples. It can be used to extract fatty acids from biological samples, such as adipose tissue or blood serum, and can also be used to prepare samples for analysis by high-performance liquid chromatography. Phenethyl butyrate has an acidic pH and is insoluble in water. The solubility of phenethyl butyrate increases with increasing concentrations of sodium citrate or propionate. Phenethyl butyrate is also known to react with metformin hydrochloride, which is a drug that lowers the levels of glucose in the blood.
