4-Chlorophthalic anhydride is a colorless crystalline solid that is soluble in acetone and ethanol. It is used to synthesize dyes, paints, varnishes, and other organic compounds. This compound can be produced by the reaction of copper chloride with chloral hydrate or by the dehydration of phthalic anhydride with concentrated sulfuric acid. 4-Chlorophthalic anhydride reacts with hydrogen chloride to form 4-chlorophthalic acid. The solubility of this compound in water varies depending on the temperature and pH levels.
