m-Toluidine-4-sulfonic acid is a colorless crystalline solid that is soluble in water. It has an onset temperature of around 100°C, but can be analyzed at temperatures as low as -10°C. The reactivity of m-toluidine-4-sulfonic acid is exothermic, which means it gives off heat when it reacts with other substances. This chemical is also thermally stable, meaning it does not decompose at high temperatures. In addition to being reactive and thermally stable, m-toluidine-4-sulfonic acid has two functional groups, one on each end of the molecule. The carbon atom in the central position (marked by *) contains a hydroxyl group and the sulfur atom in the terminal position (*) contains a sulfonyl group. These functional groups are what give this chemical its unique properties.
