Description

Dibenzo[A,C]phenazine is a fluorescent probe that can be activated by light. It is a molecule with two phenyl groups and an aromatic hydrocarbon. The fluorophore has the ability to transport energy from one place to another. Dibenzo[A,C]phenazine has been used as a fluorescence probe for hydrogen bonds in water and other solvents. Dibenzo[A,C]phenazine exhibits different optical properties depending on the solvent. In the gas phase, this fluorophore exhibits fluorescence lifetimes of 3 nanoseconds, while in polar solvents such as water or ethanol it has lifetimes of 100 nanoseconds. This difference is due to the polarity of the solvent, which affects the orientation of dipole moments and electron-acceptor interactions with nitrogen atoms in the molecule.
