Description

Benzo[c]cinnoline is a heterocyclic compound with the chemical formula C9H6N2. It is a member of the quinoline family, which is composed of compounds containing two nitrogen atoms and one or more carbon atoms. The benzo[c]cinnoline ring is planar and can be thought of as an extension of the benzene ring. Benzo[c]cinnoline has been shown to react with nucleophiles in a similar manner to that observed for benzene. For example, it reacts with trifluoroacetic acid in a Suzuki coupling reaction to form the corresponding benzo[c]isoquinoline. This reaction mechanism can be broadly classified as nucleophilic attack at the benzo-carbon double bond. The resonance energies are lower than those for benzene due to steric interactions between substituents on the ring.
