Description

(-)-Voacangine is a monoterpenoid indole alkaloid that has antioxidative properties and may be effective in treating infectious diseases. (-)-Voacangine has been shown to inhibit the production of nitric oxide by binding to heme, thereby preventing the formation of reactive oxygen species and neuronal death. (-)-Voacangine has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. The molecular docking analysis for (-) voacangine provides a possible explanation for the drug's effects on protein data. This analysis suggests that (-) voacangine is a structural analog of voacangine, which binds to proteins such as cytochrome P450 2B6 and inhibits protein synthesis.
