Description

Rhombifoline is a naturally occurring alkaloidal extract from the mushroom Ganoderma lucidum. It has been shown to have anticancer effects against animals and humans when administered orally, as well as radiation-protective effects in animals. Rhombifoline has also been shown to inhibit endothelial cell proliferation induced by angiotensin II, which may be due to its ability to block the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/Akt) pathway. Rhombifoline can also inhibit the production of quinolizidine alkaloids by enzyme preparations. This property is shared with other alkaloid compounds such as n-methylcytisine, strychnine, and morphine.
