(9Z,11Z)-9,11-Octadecadienoic acid is a human lipid. This fatty acid is an acute phase protein that serves to regulate the inflammatory response by binding to lipids in the cell membrane and neutralizing them. This compound has been shown to have anti-oxidant properties as well, which may be due to its ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation in human plasma. (9Z,11Z)-9,11-Octadecadienoic acid also serves as a marker for the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH).
