Description

Zinc propionate is a chemical compound that is used in wastewater treatment and has physiological effects. It is also a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase enzymes and blocks the production of prostaglandins, which are important mediators of inflammation. Zinc propionate can be used to inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. Zinc propionate may also have antioxidant properties due to its ability to bind with chromium, a metal that can cause oxidative damage to cells. This chemical compound is metabolized by hydrolysis into propionic acid, which is then converted into energy through oxidation reactions. Zinc propionate has been shown to have beneficial effects on biochemical properties in animal studies.
