Description

9-Phenylxanthen-9-ol is an unsymmetrical molecule with two phenyl rings and an aliphatic chain. It is a protonated, acidic compound that can be synthesized in high yield by the reaction of 9-phenylanthracene with various acylating agents. 9-Phenylxanthen-9-ol has been shown to be a nucleophilic reactant and can be used as a catalyst in the synthesis of acid salts of fatty acids.
