1-Anthracene carboxylic acid reacts with hydrogen bromide to form 2-bromoacetophenone, which undergoes an intramolecular cyclization reaction to produce 1,4-dibromobenzene. This dibromobenzene then reacts with hydrochloric acid to produce 4-chloro-3-nitrobenzaldehyde.
