Description :
3,4-Diaminophenol is a nitrophenol that can be used as an intermediate in the production of aminophenols. It is also a precursor to organic compounds containing pyridine nitrogen, such as mesomers and betaines. 3,4-Diaminophenol is produced by the reaction of nitric acid with ammonia and phenol. The resulting product is then dissolved in water and heated to produce the desired product. The high yield of this reaction makes it useful for commercial production. 3,4-Diaminophenol has been shown to react with thiols such as mercaptans or thiophenols to form thiourea derivatives or sulfonamides respectively.
