2-Benzyl-3-phenylpropanoic acid is a monosubstituted benzoic acid that is used as an excipient in pharmaceutical preparations. It is also used as a buffer to maintain the pH of deionized water during sterilization procedures. 2-Benzyl-3-phenylpropanoic acid has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on fatty acids, which may be due to its structural similarity to anilino. This chemical has been shown to reduce blood pressure and insulin resistance in animals. 2-Benzyl-3-phenylpropanoic acid has antiviral potency against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) and influenza A virus (IAV).
