Description

2-Mononitroglycerin solution (2MNG) is a molecule that belongs to the ester compounds. This drug is used as an anti-anginal agent, which relaxes the muscles of the heart and dilates blood vessels. 2MNG has been shown to reduce the frequency of anginal attacks by increasing the availability of nitric oxide in the body. 2MNG is absorbed rapidly after oral administration, with a half-life of about 20 minutes. The drug is metabolized by rat liver microsomes into chloride and nitro metabolites, which are excreted in urine. The pharmacodynamics of 2MNG have been studied using a single-dose pharmacokinetic study in rats; this study found that 2MNG at low doses has no effect on blood pressure or heart rate, but at high doses it causes a significant decrease in both. A chromatographic method has been developed for analyzing 2MNG concentrations in human plasma and serum.
