Description

Triheptanoin is a tri-substituted fatty acid that has been shown to have beneficial effects on mitochondrial dysfunction. Triheptanoin is synthesized by the liver and is found in high concentrations in the cardiac and hepatic tissue, where it can be used as a diagnostic for metabolic disorders. Triheptanoin has been shown to improve mitochondrial functions, including mitochondrial membrane potential and fatty acid oxidation, which are linked to energy metabolism in cells. It also prevents the development of hepatic steatosis and cardiac dysfunction induced by a high-fat diet. In addition, triheptanoin has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity in diabetic mice by reducing oxidative stress and improving mitochondrial function.
Triheptanoin has also been shown to have pharmacological treatment properties for metabolic disorders such as obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
