Description

1-Mononitroglycerin solution is a nitric oxide donor that is used for the treatment of low blood pressure and congestive heart failure. It has been shown to be effective in clinical trials by increasing blood flow and improving blood pressure. This drug is effective by increasing the amount of nitric oxide, a chemical that relaxes smooth muscle cells in the walls of blood vessels and helps them dilate. Nitric oxide also inhibits platelet aggregation, which can lead to formation of clots inside the body. 1-Mononitroglycerin solution can be administered intravenously or orally, but there are some adverse effects such as headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and chest pain. The reaction mechanism of this drug has been studied using kinetic analysis and chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CI/MS).
