Description

N,N-Dimethylthioacetamide is a thioacetamide derivative that is used as an ionophore. It has been shown to have the ability to transport ions across lipid bilayers and membranes. N,N-dimethylthioacetamide has also been used in the synthesis of organic compounds with asymmetric centers. The compound is protonated at physiological pH and can form hydrogen bonds with other molecules. It can also form covalent linkages with another molecule through a carbon tetrachloride intermediate. N,N-dimethylthioacetamide has been shown to be able to increase the rate of hydrogen bonding by forming stronger bonds than water or ammonia. This compound has also been found to exhibit linear response in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy analysis, which is an analytical method for determining molecular structure by exciting vibrational modes on the surface of a material. It does not require labeling of the analyte with fluorescent or radioactive markers.
